As a specialized neuromuscular clinic serving patients across Gatineau, Ottawa, and the Outaouais region, Clinique Neuro-Outaouais (CNO) provides comprehensive evaluation and care for a wide range of neuromuscular diseases and disorders.

Our neurology treatment center functions as a regional neuromuscular center and neuromuscular disease center, offering expert neurological assessment, advanced electrodiagnostic testing, targeted treatments, and access to rehabilitation and research services.

A Clinic for Neuromuscular Diseases and Disorders

Neuromuscular diseases encompass conditions affecting the peripheral nerves, the neuromuscular junction, and the muscle itself. These conditions may include:
  • Peripheral neuropathies, such as diabetic peripheral neuropathy and inflammatory polyneuropathies (including CIDP)
  • Disorders of the neuromuscular junction, such as myasthenia gravis
  • Primary muscle diseases, including myositis and muscular dystrophy
Patients may present with symptoms such as muscle weakness, numbness, tingling, pain, double vision, drooping eyelids, difficulty swallowing, difficulty walking, or trouble climbing stairs. Because these symptoms can overlap across different neuromuscular conditions, careful evaluation is required to determine the underlying cause.

Neuromuscular diseases are investigated using a combination of clinical assessment and specialized testing, including EMG/NCS, neuromuscular ultrasound, MRI, blood tests, and genetic testing when appropriate.

Neuromuscular Evaluation & Electrodiagnostic Testing

Accurate diagnosis is central to effective neuromuscular care. At CNO, neuromuscular conditions are evaluated through a detailed neurological examination combined with advanced electrodiagnostic testing.

Our team performs clinical evaluations supported by electrophysiological studies such as electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), single-fiber electromyography (SFEMG), and neuromuscular ultrasound. These investigations help clarify the presence and extent of nerve, neuromuscular junction, or muscle involvement and guide further management.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Evaluation & Treatment

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common neuromuscular condition caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist. It typically presents with intermittent numbness, tingling, or weakness affecting the hand.

At CNO, carpal tunnel syndrome is evaluated through a clinical assessment combined with EMG/NCS and ultrasound. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, patients are referred to CNO’s plastic surgeon with expertise in hand surgery to discuss appropriate surgical treatment options when indicated.

Once the diagnosis is confirmed, patients are referred to the CNO’s plastic surgeon (hand specialist) who will discuss the surgical treatment options with the patient.
