Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a complex, progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It is marked by the buildup of a protein called alpha-synuclein within brain cells and the gradual loss of dopamine-producing neurons, which are essential for smooth motor control.

Parkinson's Disease

PD presents with a constellation of possible symptoms including:
At CNO, we take a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of Parkinson’s Disease, offering a full continuum of care that includes both standard and emerging therapies.

About rTMS for Parkinson’s Disease:

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive technique that uses targeted magnetic pulses to modulate brain activity. Research studies (see published articles) suggest it may help alleviate symptoms such as:

While promising, rTMS remains an experimental treatment for Parkinson’s Disease and is not currently covered by public health insurance (RAMQ/OHIP).

AT CNO

Clinic Neuro-Outaouais is one of the first in Canada designated Vyalev initiation clinic.

Foslevodopa/foscarbidopa solution (VYALEV) VYALEV is indicated for the treatment of patients with Parkinson’s disease who do not have a satisfactory control of severe, debilitating motor fluctuations despite optimized treatment with available combinations of Parkinson’s medicinal products. Vyalev initiation is labour intensive and requires close monitoring for several hours and in some countries is done via hospitalisation over a few days. Because of these requirements some neurology clinics have been reluctant to prescribe the treatment or developed waiting lists to initiate Vyalev therapy.

CNO being a designated initiation clinic entails that you can have your Vyalev started at CNO by our team of neurologists and nurses. This will require you spend a few hours at the clinic and come back the next morning for a quick adjustment if necessary. You will have received an introduction and training by a specialized nurse at your home prior to your visit. During you initiation visit your capacity to initiate the subcutaneous infusion will be observed and the initial infusion rate prescribed by your treating neurologist will be adjusted according to your response during the following few hours. You will return the next morning for us to evaluate how you did overnight and the rate will be adjusted again if necessary.  A full report will be sent to your treating neurologist, and he/she will continue to adjust your treatment as needed.
