Stroke Care and Recovery at CNO

Approximately 80% of strokes are ischemic, caused by a blocked blood vessel, while 20% are hemorrhagic, caused by a ruptured blood vessel in the brain. Much work remains to optimize prevention, diagnosis, timely treatment, and recovery for stroke survivors.

Stroke Diagnosis and Acute Treatment

Stroke diagnosis and acute treatment are medical emergencies and is best managed in a hospital emergency unit.

At Clinique Neuro Outaouais (CNO), we provide neurological consultations to help determine the best medical prevention strategies for recurrent stroke. We also offer advanced stroke recovery programs through our in-house Neurorehabilitation unit, which may be used alone or in combination with rTMS to help maximize each individual’s recovery potential.

At CNO

We believe, based on extensive experience, that stroke recovery does not have a fixed plateau, nor is there a strict time limit after which rehabilitation and/or rTMS will no longer bring meaningful gains. Our goal is to help each patient make new progress toward improved function and independence, no matter where they are in their recovery journey.

rTMS in Stroke Recovery

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is used as an adjunct therapy to improve motor and speech recovery following a stroke. According to Cochrane Reviews, rTMS currently holds a B level of evidence, meaning it is still considered an experimental treatment and is not covered by provincial health insurance (RAMQ/OHIP). Please check with your private insurance provider to confirm if rTMS is covered.

Patients must be referred by a physician to access our stroke prevention and recovery services.
